"Already Forgetting Pearl Harbor" by dadoo

I remember that day. John Lennon was one of the Beatles and since I was a confirmed Beach Boys fan, it didn't seem that important then, and certainly doesn't today. Comparing the two issues and calling the John Lennon shooting a defining moment is a bit over the top. As a baby boomer, Pearl Harbor affected my personal life a lot more than John Lennon ever did, and I suspect that it is the same for your generation if anyone really cared to research it a bit.

"Be Reconciled to God" by Peter Ehat

What a thoughtful and inspiring entry. Very well said.

You pointing out the 1828 definition of reconcile reminded me of one of the doctrines taught in the Lectures on Faith--that our Heavenly Father's most prominent personality trait is his compassion and love for his children.

What in this case is described as friendship is in my mind what Moroni calls the Pure love of Christ, or in modern terms would be written Christ's Love. If you look at it this way, you realize that he who obtains Christlike love also obtains Christ's love and he is reconciled with Christ and God.

"Any other web developers out there?" by Ben

Yeah, I already use the Web Dev extension quite a bit.

I didn't realize this when I wrote this post, but the View Rendered Source shows the html after firefox has internally 'cleaned it up.' I liked it just for the color highlighting of the elements, but being able to see what the browser thinks it sees in our html files is nice, too.

This is a nifty plugin. Another useful tool for deciphering HTML to download is the <a href="http://chrispederick.com/work/firefox/webdeveloper/">Web Developer Extension</a>. Then from the Outline tab choose Block Level Elements if it's CSS based html, or Tables and Table Cells if it's table-based design. Pretty cool! Try out the CSS tab too! Very handy--especially the view style information selection.

"Katrina" by Dave

I have had real mixed feelings about this same idea. I imagine that some people simply didn't have the resources to get out of town. In some big cities many do not own transportation. On the other hand, I have thought about the literally hundreds who apparently did nothing and then expected the miracle as you said.

On the news last night I say a rescue of a very old overweight lady that had to be lifted out of here flooded house. Perhaps she cannot walk, I don't know. But I wondered if she could have done anything other that try and wait it out.

But no doubt there are hundreds that simply ignored the evacuation orders, and now are in dire straits. I have thought through my own plans if we were asked to leave the city. My first inclination is Mt. Air. But what would be practical. It could happen to us, perhaps not in the way as in New Orleans due to flooding. This whole thing had made me want to be more conservative, not spend money and figure out a bit better survival and emergency preparedness.
